Oja Violin Studio
Recital Series

"A violin should be played with love, or not at all."
- Joseph Wechsberg, Czech writer and musician

Student
Recitals
In addition to other plentiful performance opportunities, formal recitals with piano accompaniment are held twice a year at a music hall or auditorium.

Dress Rehearsals with piano accompanist are typically held on Saturdays, the day before the recital. These rehearsals are invaluable for the success of a student's performance, and should be prioritized. If students are unable to meet on the designated day of the dress rehearsal, arrangements can often be made outside of it.

Private students are asked to participate in formal recitals. A student with an excused absence can make up the recital by participating in the virtual recital. The virtual recitals combine the recording of the formal in-person recitals with recorded performances of virtual students from around the country.

Ensembles
Performances

Ensemble is highly emphasized in the Oja Violin Studio. Playing in a small ensemble setting is a wonderful way for students to build stage confidence and build valuable ensemble skills, all while having fun and making new friends. It gives students great incentive to practice, and allows them to learn from other fellow students in a small, non-competitive group setting.

Participating students from the Oja violin studio are matched to play in violin duets or larger ensembles. Students will first learn their individual parts privately, after which they can begin rehearsing with each other, and may receive group coaching sessions when applicable. Ensemble playing is encouraged for all levels, and students are all given ample opportunities to perform.

Virtual
Recitals
To provide performance opportunities to students outside Massachusetts, the Oja Violin Studio holds Virtual Recitals alongside the in-person recitals. Private students from California, North Carolina, New York, Maine, Minnesota, etc., along with local Massachusetts students, are invited to participate in virtual recitals.

Other Performance Opportunities
In addition to formal recitals, students are provided with other frequent opportunities to perform in different settings. These performances include regular mini studio recitals, holiday and ensemble performances, music festivals, and community performances. All are encouraged to take advantage of the many performance opportunities offered. When a student performs often, they gain confidence, incentive to practice, they become a stronger player, and they learn the joy and thrill of playing for a live audience.
